What is a Guardian ad Litem and why are they so vital to children in need?
A Guardian ad Litem is a person (21 or older) who desires to be a child's voice in court by completing 30 hours of classroom training, being legally sworn in by a judge, and then accepting an assignment to advocate for a child's best interest. Most volunteers spend four to six hours per month on their child's case. Many volunteers work full time, yet they still find time to make a difference in the life of an abused or neglected child. Do YOU have time to spare? Become a Guardian! For more information, call 1-800-982-4041 or visit the NC website: http://www.ncgal.org/. Right now many children are in the custody of the Department of Social Services in your county and have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. They are in need of caring adults to look out for their best interests while their cases go through the court system.
